Ps Werner van der Walt
This week pastor Werner van der Walt continued on our series “Transferring trust”. Ps Werner shared a prayer with us from 2 Corinthians 8:7, that we will abound in all things through Christ.
He focused on financial freedom and encouraged us to open our hearts to receive more practical things to change our lives. He also said that finances have a huge impact on our spiritual lives, but it can’t guarantee our spiritual maturity, still God is seeking faithful stewards in their finances (Timothy 6:17-21 and Proverbs).
Pastor Werner gave us 6 steps to financial freedom:
- Live within your means
The value of frugality (we buy things we don’t need, with money we don’t have, to impress people we don’t like) try to relieve yourself of unnecessary stress.
- Plan
You need to plan your finances, have a budget. 97% of people don’t have a budget because they are not honest about where they are in life financially. You should therefore ascertain what your financial goals are and purpose in your heart how you want to spend your finances. Proverbs 22:7 basic elements of both wisdom and foolishness. Good debt – home, bad debts – loans credit cards proverbs 13:22.
- Sort out your own mess
Luke 16: link between spiritual gifts and financial wellness
- Mind your own business
Many people don’t consider themselves as businesspeople, each month you should ask yourself: is your personal finances profitable?
- Live generously
Create margin by setting things in order. The hand that’s open to give is also open to receive.
- The first principle
God first, in him all things are made new (live move have our being) genesis 4:1-4 – give sacrificially and honour God in our giving Hebrews 7 – offering are taken up by men but received by Jesus.”
