Love Like Jesus – Part 1

Live Like Jesus

Lindsay Smith

Lindsay preached a sermon titled: “Love like Jesus”, and she focused on the perfect example of Jesus and the life He modelled while he was on earth. The meaning of love is different to all of us and she told us about the 5 love languages – gifts, words of affirmation, acts of service, quality time and physical touch. Based on this, we should try to figure out our family, friends’ love language to ensure that a gift is applicable to what they need.

Pastor Lindsay said that as Christians, we tend to practice a tainted version of love as we tend to give love based on a reward system due to life experiences which dictates to us what love looks like. We should however remember that the perfect will of God is the true meaning of love as God’s perspective of love is exceptionally different, God’s love is Agape.

Agape means the highest form of love, charity, and the love of God for human beings and human beings for God. It is in contrast to brotherly love or self-love as it embraces a profound sacrificial love that transcends and persists regardless of circumstance.

Biblical love is more than a feeling or emotion, it’s rather caring for someone regardless of what they can give you in return. Matt 22:37-39, one should love both God and people, as the absence of either would not be a true reflection of the instruction.

4 things to see how Jesus lived an agape life while on earth:

  • Jesus loved God by submitting to His perfect plans and will for His life. By putting aside His needs, desires, and plans for God’s will. Matt 26:35-46
  • Jesus loved people – He always went after the one. Matt 18:10-14, 2 Peter 3:9
  • Jesus served actively – it was never passive. Galatians 5: 22-25
  • Jesus loves us unconditionally – no strings attached. Romans 5:6-9, Ephesians 2:8-9

Our greatest response to the love Jesus shows is to share the exact same love with the world.”
