Burn the Plow

Water Baptism

Ps Dino Cicatello

Pastor Dino preached on “Burning the Plow” this week and focused on baptism. He reflected on 3 types of baptisms mentioned in the Bible to help us connect with God.

  • Baptism into the body of Christ – Galatians 3:26 – becoming children of God upon salvation.
  • Baptism by water – Romans 6:4 – conscious, intentional new beginning
  • Baptized in the holy spirit – Acts 1:8 – The holy spirit lives in us for us but comes upon us for others.

Ps Dino explained that the word Baptism stems from the word Baptizo which means to be fully immersed likewise on all three types of baptisms, God wants us to be fully immersed too.

Christine Caine wrote that “baptism is a moment of surrender and submission, as we let go of our old selves and surrender to God’s will for our lives”. The first person we should lead is ourselves and by witnessing others get baptized the seed will be planted in our spirit too. Ps Dino said that baptism is not for only for a select few, but all Christians, Matt 28:19. There are parallels in the Old and New Testament, these are things that help us reflect on the plan and goodness of God.

Baptism represents a public confirmation of our stance in Christ, as where there’s clarity, there’s conviction and then there’s action. God wants us to be clear about where we stand with Him and we should be in full immersion by salvation, the spirit, and by water! We should also pull ourselves out of any dark, low, or lonely place by burning/removing/closing the door to all options to return to our old lives.
